Naqibullah Malestani, an official with the province’s police, said the attack began at 2 a.m. and lasted for two hours.
He said the insurgents withdrew at 4 a.m. given the security forces’ forceful resistance, Sedaye Afghan news agency reported.
It is not clear how many Taliban members were killed in the clashes.
The central Daikundi province has been regarded as a peaceful province. However, the Taliban militants who are active in the neighboring Uruzgan province occasionally launch attacks on security forces there.
